My Scottish Adventure (part four)

I left Plockton and drove to Eilean Donan Castle and sketched the castle from inside the car.

I then headed to Skye to spend five nights with a friend west of Portree.

29th March:

I headed towards Uig and went to the Fairy Glen before driving towards Duntulm and then onto Stafffin. I then visited Kilt Rock and Mealtime Falls which is located South of Staffin.

30th March:

I visited the Old Man of Storr, which is located north of Portree. The clouds were low and atmospheric. I took plenty of pictures and also sketched some views using graphite, pencils and pastel.

31st March:

I went with my friend Karen to Egol with the aim of sketching and painting the view from the harbour. We had an amazing day as the weather was good and we were able to sit on the beach with the harbour and the Cullins stretched out in front of us. This is one of my favourite views if not the top one. It is the one I always recommend on Skye having been told to visit there by my younger sister in 2012.

We had an incredible day in 2012 as we ventured out on a boat to land in an inlet near Loch Coruisk. The sky was clear blue and the views just took my breath away. Hence I wanted to go back there to paint.

Then I drew a view with pencil before painting using watercolour. The sky was my starting point where I used cerulean blue, ultramarine, burnt sienna and lightened with titanium white before putting some colour into the sea. I then applied earth colours to the mountain range. I tried to keep this light and build the colour up gradually. The sea can be tricky so again I used cerulean blue and phthalo blue (green) as well as using white and water to vary the tone.

1st April:

The last day was spent sketching around where I was staying at Kildonan as this was a wet day.
