Summary of what you need to do:

Step 1: Submit details together with a photograph

Step 2: Provide details of the size, style and timeframe

Step 3: I will provide feedback together with a sketch of the proposed composition and process

Step 4: If we agree on how to proceed then I will provide updates on my progress.

Considerations for you when deciding on a commission

Where will you hang the artwork? The mood of the room: if modern, then unframed boxed canvas may work; but not necessarily in a room where the décor is more traditional and paintings are framed

Which wall will it hang? Will the light reflect off the glass? The painting may be affected by the sunlight (Example is watercolour, which is not lightfast and will deteriorate in direct sunlight)

Where do people sit?

Any heat source below? This could affect the picture

Any other paintings in the room? If all framed then a box canvas will not look appropriate

I have set out the process below:

 PROCESS in more detail

Step one:

Complete the online form and submit this to us. The forms requests the following:

  1. Contact information
  2. Title of the work
  3. Location or topic
  4. Size of picture
  5. Framed or unframed
  6. Choice of medium:
    1. Acrylic
    2. Soft pastel
    3. Oil pastel
    4. Pencil including / excluding colour
    5. Watercolour
  7. Photograph of the subject if possible
  8. Any questions or special requests

Step two:

I will contact you with my preliminary thoughts and ideas as well as an idea of cost

Step three:

I will provide you with a preliminary sketch, showing a rough composition / outline, which is open to discussion and clarification. I will then ask you to sign it off and to also send me minimal deposit.

Step four:

I will commence preparing the picture and provide you with an outline, which depending on the media, may include the base layer.

Step five:

Review where a revision can be made to ensure you are happy with the work.

Step six:

Check-in review(s) to be agreed usually via email.

Step seven:

Completion, delivery or collection.

Workshops at the Mill Yard Studio Gallery, Cromford Mills, Derbyshire

We continue to develop our programme of workshops at Mill Yard Studio Gallery and therefore in response to enquiries we are adding some watercolour workshops.

All of our workshops have a max number of 5 and so individual support and tuition is guaranteed and thus all workshops can accommodate differing levels of experience

Resplendence Exhibition at Millyard Studio Gallery

A new exhibition titled "Resplendence" commences on the 27th June 2025 at the Mill Yard Studio Gallery located at Cromford Mills. It features work by the resident artists Jenny McKenzie (painter) Jo Spencer (mosaic artist) and Sarah Stone (silversmith). In addition, their are guest artists featured:
