Nga Quynh Ngo

Nga Quynh Ngo is a landscape artist based in North Yorkshire, whose work explores the evocative interplay of light, memory, and the natural world.

Trained in Graphic Design at Hanoi Fine Arts University, she brings a foundational understanding of composition, rhythm, and balance to her painting practice. After a decade-long career in design across Vietnam and the UK, she has returned to her roots by finding inspiration in the open spaces and shifting weather of the British landscape.

Her work is centred on "nature’s quiet dramas" such as those fleeting moments of transition when frost begins to lift or light breaks through a heavy cloud.

She works primarily in soft pastel and mixed media to translate these observations into bold and textural landscapes. "Rather than seeking photo-realism, I aim to capture the "feeling" of being in a place, reimagining familiar moors and rivers through a dramatic lens."

Her approach is direct and tactile by building surfaces through deliberate layers of marks and avoiding heavy blending. Therefore her strokes are visible in order to maintain an energy that reflects the changing nature of the scenes Nga paints. Light is the essential structure as it defines the mood and invites the viewer into a quiet sense of being there and therefore capturing a moment just before it transforms.
